Combigs Inauguration

The COMBIGS (Computational Biology Group at SASTRA - Students association of Bioinformatics) was inaugurated on February 15,2022 in online mode. The elected office bearers were introduced and each one of them assured to discharge their duties to their best. The new office bearers of the COMBIGS team included Nandhakumar (Chairman), Nishanth (Deputy chairman), Brintha (Treasurer), Akshaya (Vice chairman), Yogeshwaran (Joint secretary) took their oath of administration. The newly elected chairman of COMBIGS, Nandhakumar spoke in great detail about the main motive and the activity of the COMBIGS team. Dr.A.Sathya & Dr.L.Ramya, the faculty coordinators encouraged the new office bearers and coordinated the event.

KLF Lecture

Following the inauguration, a KLF (Knowledge Leadership Forum) was conducted by the COMBIGS, in which Dr.J.Ramalingam, Professor, Department of Biotechnology, TNAU highlighted about various undergraduate, postgraduate programs and research conducted in the Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, TNAU Coimbatore. He focused on various approaches to develop genetically modified crops with high quality characteristics like drought tolerance, disease and insect resistance. His talk also shed lights on various other applications of Bioinformatics in agriculture including database development and genome sequencing. Q and A session was interactive and informative. The entire programme was enlightening & enthusiastically about 80 students from B.Tech & M.Tech programmes participated in it.
