On the 11th of August, the COMBIGS(Computational Biology Group @ SASTRA University) was inaugurated for the academic year 2023-2024. The student’s association was inaugurated by Prof. K. S. Rajan, our esteemed Dean, who provided a concise introduction to the objectives and purpose of COMBIGS. It was an honor to have Dr. Alli Murugesan as guest speaker, who added her expertise and insights to the occasion. This event was funded by Shastri Indo Canadian Institute.

   

The eminent keynote speaker, Dr. Alli Murugesan, from the University of New Brunswick, Canada, is a distinguished Biotechnologist acclaimed for extensive involvement in translational biomedical research, particularly in the realm of novel therapeutics targeting blood cancers. Her role as the founder and CEO of BioHuntress Therapeutics Inc. further underscores her exceptional contributions to the field.

   

She delivered an exceedingly insightful research presentation on interdisciplinary methodologies pertaining to drug discovery, with a particular focus on the bee glue molecule. During this discourse, she provided a comprehensive elucidation of a study that delved into the promising attributes of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) and its analogues as pioneering agents for the treatment of myeloma. The research meticulously examined their influence on pivotal transcription factors associated with the advancement of myeloma, consequently unveiling intricate details of their mechanism of action.

   

Subsequent to this, she delivered an entrepreneurship discourse elucidating the establishment and advancement of BioHuntress Therapeutics Inc. This biomedical innovation and commercialization entity is propelled by an unwavering commitment to the development of efficacious remedies, drawing from natural or nature-inspired sources, targeting afflictions of profound gravity like hematologic malignancies and their related disorders.

In conclusion, a dedicated question and answer (QA) session was conducted with Dr. Alli Murugesan, affording students a valuable opportunity for in-depth discussions and elucidation.
